Tai Chi Chuan Prospectus

Tai Chi is a centuries old combination of Chinese meditational, health and practices that has been shown to provide emotional, spiritual, health, and fitness benefits.

Recent studies by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and others have shown that those who practice Tai Chi achieve long term benefits in balance, cognition, blood pressure, sense of well-being, and levels of relief for diabetes, arthritis, blood chemistry, lower back pain and other conditions.

Tai Chi utilizes slow, gentle, controlled movements that increase circulation, improve balance, and stretch and strengthen critical muscle groups. The movements are low impact, and most can be performed sitting and even reclining as well as standing.

The Adult Center of Prescott is offering classes twice a week (in line with NIH guidelines):

Tuesdays – 10:30 to 11:30 - This class will focus on basics for new students and review and practice for more experienced students.

Thursdays – 10:30 to 11:30 - This class will focus on more advanced skills for more experienced students.

Each class will start with a series of health and breathing exercises known generally as Qigong. These exercises have been used in China for thousands of years and enhance balance, flexibility of muscles, tendons, and ligaments, increase blood flow, and gently massage the internal organs.

Qigong will be followed by instruction and practice in the individual postures that make up the Yang Style 24 Form – the most-encountered Tai Chi form, worldwide.

The Thursday class will focus on refinement of the Yang 24 Form, and students will additionally learn and practice the Wu Dang Style Therapeutic Form, parts 1 and 2.

Instructor: Bryan N. Karabaich. Bryan has familiarity with several styles of martial arts and has been practicing Tai Chi since 2003. He is certified to teach the Wu Dang Therapeutic Form.
